They say that your eyes reflect what is in your soul but your lips and the corner of your mouth reveals what is in your mind. Whether happy or sad, peaceful or contemplative, there is no facial feature as expressive as your lips.
As the central feature of the lower third of the face, full and well defined lips portray a sense of youth, health, attractiveness and sexuality. They reach their fullness in our late teenage years or early twenties but thereafter, as they age, they lose volume and can become thin and flat.
Their appearance can be affected by a multitude of other facial structures including skin, fat, muscle, teeth and bones. As you grow older, these components change and ultimately contribute to the less attractive lip appearance.
For example, the amount and distribution of facial fat can change and combined with alterations in muscle, loss of jawbone and teeth height, results in a loss of lip support. The upshot of that process is a ‘sad look’.
Here at Estetica we recognise the changes that take place and understand these support structures frequently need addressing to either prevent or correct the down-turning of lip corners.
Volumetric lip enhancement to the rescue
What started in 1981 with the introduction of collagen for enhancing lips has become an evolution of excellent treatment modalities. Injectable collagen lip therapy continued to evolve with new, longer lasting products available today. In addition, the introduction of hyaluronic acid (HA) products heralded a new era in the ever-expanding choices for soft tissue augmentation. HA products like Restylane, Juvederm are an exciting class of materials that offer flexibility of use, safety and natural feel of the tissues treated.
The future of lip enhancement is bright and full of optimism. Today’s treatment options offer excellent results that satisfy both physicians and, more importantly, patients. The safety of volumetric lip enhancement continues to improve resulting in more and more patients seeking those elusive perfect lips.
Dr Sina Salimi at Estetica said; “The concept of beauty has changed over time and large lips and obvious volume augmentation is no longer the trend.
“At Estetica, we believe that the look, texture and balance is far more important than sizeable impact and we are dedicated to creating a natural look and a natural smile.”
With more than eight years of experience in facial aesthetic injectables, including Fillers and lip augmentation, Dr Salimi looks at each case differently. He combines different treatment options to create a natural result.
