Teeth whitening is becoming more and more popular as men and women seek to have a celebrity smile, but here are a few benefits to having whiter teeth:

  • First impressions – we all make instant decisions based on first impressions, and having the confidence to smile naturally can really help to boost a person’s likeability factor.  Subconsciously we are more likely to warm to a person who has a friendly face and an easy going smile.  Having whiter teeth can give an individual the confidence to feel comfortably greeting new people with a smile.

Occasionally there are times when a tooth becomes damaged or so badly decayed that your dentist may recommend that a dental crown is fitted in order to restore the tooth’s appearance and enhance its functionality.  A crown is basically an artificial tooth covering, often made from porcelain, glass or gold, which fits over the remaining part of the tooth.  You may also hear it referred to as a ‘cap’.

If you have a dental crown Surrey fitted to one of your front teeth, the chances are this will be made from porcelain.  A porcelain crown may not be quite a strong as a bonded crown, but it will certainly give a very natural finish which is a big advantage for many patients.  Traditional crowns were often made from gold alloy due to its hard wearing properties, but all-ceramic crowns are becoming more popular.

If you’re considering having cosmetic dentistry but you’re not sure where to start looking, then our blog post will provide an idea of some basic questions which you should ask a potential dentist.  It’s usually worth visiting a practitioner who is fairly local to you, as some treatments require repeat visits and so you want to be able to make sure you can get to the cosmetic dentist fairly easily.

Ask friends and family for recommendations, or perhaps take a look online to create a shortlist of potential dentists.  When you contact each dentist, ask them how much experience they have of the procedure you are considering.  Obviously the more experience the better, and you should ask to see some before and after photographs of past patients.  Reputable cosmetic dentists should have a gallery of photographs of recent patients on their website for you to view.

For a dramatic improvement in the appearance of teeth with very minimal preparation needed, veneers can be a very beneficial treatment for both cosmetic and dental reasons. Veneers are thin layers of material, usually porcelain or composite, than is made to fit over the surface of a tooth, most often at the front of the mouth.

Dental veneers are usually recommended for cosmetic reasons. When we consume food or drink, our teeth can become discoloured over time. This the effects of this discolouring is often worse in cases where patients have smoked, or regularly drank red wine or other spirits. Veneers can be a necessary dental treatment in order to treat discoloured teeth and improve their appearance. By bonding veneers on to discoloured teeth at the front of the mouth, Surrey dentists can help patient’s teeth to appear much whiter and healthy looking. Porcelain veneers are stain resistant, removing the worry that they will begin to discolour.
